2017 Ram 1500 vs. 2017 Chevrolet Silverado

When looking for a new pickup, you may be wondering if the 2017 Ram 1500 or 2017 Chevrolet Silverado is the best truck for your needs. Both are great looking and toughly built workhorses with a nice choice of engines as well as nicely appointed and stylish interiors. And both of these fine pickups come equipped with the latest in technology and entertainment options. For our comparison we’ll evaluate the 2017 Ram 1500 Laramie vs. 2017 Chevrolet Silverado LTZ Z71, both with crew cab/4×4 configurations.

Performance Comparison

The Chevrolet Silverado offers a choice of three EcoTec3® engines and likewise does the Ram 1500 with their V6 Pentastar®, 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 and 3.0-liter Ecodiesel V6. The Chevy is equipped with a 6-speed automatic where the Ram comes standard with an 8-speed automatic transmissions–both of these terrific trucks provide surprisingly good highway mileage. But when we compare the Silverado 5.3-liter V8 producing 355 horsepower/383 lb.-ft. of torque with the Ram 1500’s 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 cranking out 395 horsepower/410 lb.-ft. of torque, the clear winner is the Ram.

Interior Comparison

As both the 2017 Ram 1500 Laramie and the Chevrolet Silverado LTZ Z71 are high-end models we find both trucks are equipped with Bluetooth® connectivity, leather-trimmed/heated front seats, available front bucket seats, rear 60/40 split-folding seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual-zone automatic temperature control, rear back up camera as well as functional, attractive center consoles. Yet where the Ram comes standard with a heated steering wheel, the Chevrolet has that as an option and the Silverado’s driver information cluster is much smaller at 4.2-inches in contrast to the Ram’s 7-inch multi-view cluster. Come explore why the 2017 Ram 1500 takes the trophy in so many categories with a test drive at Dave Warren Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Jamestown, NY.
